E Pluribus Unum is a familiar phrase on U.S. coins. This phrase encapsulates and explains my scratch-off Lotto project. The idea evolved from a single ticket and exploded into a body of work that integrates millions of tickets. Ritualistically, each ticket was cut out and collated by color and size. Compulsively, each ticket was added to an assemblage of tickets to form a new structure, or was collaged to a given structure. Once the ticket became embodied in a particular project, it lost its individual significance and became a signifier of a larger idea or concept. This is where the phrase E Pluribus Unum (out of many one) gives a multilevel meaning to the process of my work and underscores its concept, "Out of many one and one out of many."
